It was a strong finish with a special guest.
After an abbreviated schedule in the month of April with only eight games, the Colorado Eagles finished strong with a 5-3-0 record earning them their first ever AHL Pacific Division title. With that, the Eagles are ready for the postseason and avoid the best-of-three play-in round and will face the remaining lowest seeded team from their division in round one.

First Star – Gabriel Landeskog – 2GP: 1G, 1A, 2P
Clearly the most exciting thing to happen to the Eagles this month, and in the hockey world at large, was the return of Colorado Avalanche Captain Gabriel Landeskog to the ice. As he shook off the rust and got used to contact and playing in a hockey game again, in his second game Landeskog helped the Eagles in a comeback win with a signature tip power play goal. Thus, Landeskog was first star for the month on the ice and in our hearts.

Second Star – Jacob MacDonald – 63 GP: 31G, 24A, 55P
Setting an AHL record seems good enough for his second consecutive star of the month for Jacob MacDonald. The defenseman set and then broke the record for goals in a season from a blueliner and finished the season with 31 goals. He recovered from a nasty hit and concussion just in time to set that record before the end of the regular season. MacDonald was second on the team in points with 55 to Matthew Phillips’ 57 and also won the Eddie Shore award for the league’s most outstanding defenseman.
That’s 31 goals this season!

Third Star – Wyatt Aamodt – 69 GP: 4G, 13A, 17P
It was never about production for the left shot defenseman and that isn’t what got him a recall to the NHL. Wyatt Aamodt’s consistency and presence on the blueline saw him finish top three in AHL plus/minus at +32. In his two games with the Avalanche Aamodt netted his first career NHL goal and then added one more back home with the Eagles. Aamodt recently earned a two-year two-way NHL contract extension so more recalls could be on the horizon for Aamodt.
