The Colorado Avalanche offseason as truly begun with the first bit of life following their Game 6 loss Friday night. And that is a transaction to keep goaltender Trent Miner in the organization for one more season. What Miner signed is a pretty bare bones two-way contract extension with a slight raise to 100k in minor league pay.

Miner has split time in the AHL and ECHL over the course of his three-year Entry Level Contract but has been exceptional when given opportunity with the Colorado Eagles posting a 9-6-1 record with a .930 save percentage and 2.10 Goals Against Average in the 2023-24 season. If Miner is slated to play full-time in the AHL next year he should land fourth on the organization’s depth chart. The Eagles should either have Justus Annunen back as the Eagles’ starter or they will sign a veteran netminder to take on that role.

Speaking of the Eagles, the organization has lost the services of assistant coach Steve Konowalchuk as he takes the head coach position of the Springfield Thunderbirds, which is the St. Louis Blues affiliate.

Elsewhere in the NHL, there was a rare trade while the playoffs are still ongoing as Ryan McDonagh was traded back to Tampa Bay. This is perfectly acceptable as neither team is still playing and the move is for next season. Does spending $6.75M on a defenseman officially close the door on Steven Stamkos returning?
