It’s not an Avalanche gameday but there’s still hockey to watch!
Before the Colorado Avalanche get their postseason series started tomorrow night against the Winnipeg Jets there’s a doubleheader already underway with the opening of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
First up is the revenge of Patrick Roy and Semyon Varlamov’s New York Islanders against perennial contenders in the Carolina Hurricanes at 3 p.m. MT. Can the wild card Islanders cause an upset or will Carolina roll through them?
The @Canes and @NYIslanders will get the 2024 #StanleyCup Playoffs going, meeting in the postseason for the second straight year and third time in six seasons. Carolina (7) and New York (6) are among the NHL leaders in series wins since 2019.#NHLStats: https://t.co/e5njBEaUge pic.twitter.com/9WgJ7NvL17

The nightcap is the Atlantic Division showdown between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Boston Bruins. That game’s puck drop is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT. Will the Maple Leafs win a round for the second year in a row or will Boston get the last laugh?
An Original Six rivalry in primetime helps open the #StanleyCup Playoffs when 69-goal and 107-point @MapleLeafs forward Auston Matthews clashes with 47-goal and 110-point @NHLBruins forward David Pastrnak.#NHLStats: https://t.co/e5njBEaUge pic.twitter.com/yh1cfqIacW
