The Avs started their five-game road trip out on a sour note, as they were unable to score against the Canucks.
For the second time this season, the Colorado Avalanche took on the Vancouver Canucks on the road. They were ultimately shut out tonight, however, as they dropped this game by a final score of 3-0.
Let’s take a look at what happened tonight.
First Period
No goals would be scored in this period, and both teams would head into the intermission tied at 0-0. Both teams had some decent looks but were unable to capitalize ultimately. We also had a bit of a penalty parade this period, as each team would get two powerplay opportunities in this period alone.
Second Period
Jake DeBrusk would finally break the tie, as he was able to capitalize on a bit of a fluke play. Mackenzie Blackwood was able to make the initial save on this play, but DeBrusk was able to knock the puck out of midair to make it 1-0 Vancouver.

Colorado was unable to solve Thatcher Demko throughout the remainder of the period. The frustrations seemed to finally boil over as Miles Wood would drop the gloves for a quick tilt with Derek Forbort.
Third Period
Frustrations would continue to boil over in the third period, as another scrum would ensue, and Colorado would come away short-handed as a result. During that subsequent powerplay, Vancouver would manage to get an odd-man rush, and managed to put the puck past Blackwood for a 2-0 lead.

Takeaways
Despite some decent chances in the first period, the Avs just got unlucky and were unable to solve Thatcher Demko. Unfortunately, as frustrating as it is, that’s just how it goes somethimes, and that’s not something that you can control.
That frustration certainly boiled over here tonight, especially in the third period. Miles Wood racked up 23 penalty minutes and a misconduct in particular. Colorado did have some good chances in the first period, but ended up hitting a multitude of posts, so they did get a bit unlucky here tonight as well. The effort was there tonight for the most part, which is a positive, up until frustrations boiled over in the third period. Hopefully, the Avs get some better luck on Thursday and are able to puck up some much-needed points against the Flames.
Upcoming
