AFC Contender Pittsburgh Steelers is linked to 24-touchdown playmaker and Denver Broncos wide receiver, Courtland Sutton in a trade rumor. According to a report, the Steelers are the “team to watch” if the Broncos decide to trade Sutton. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler says Denver won’t trade him, but they may change to listen if the right offer comes. The SMU product spent his entirety with the Denver Broncos, notching 59 receptions for 772 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.
The Steelers are a natural fit for Sutton because of the relationship he has with Russell Wilson. Wilson was traded earlier this offseason to the Steelers along with Justin Fields. Sutton was Wilson’s favorite target throughout last year so it makes sense why this trade could happen. The Steelers need a WR2 after trading Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers earlier this offseason.
Pittsburgh has this year’s draft this week but if they want to explore a veteran option then it’s there. They could address the wideout position by getting a veteran until they find a homegrown receiver to fit into their offense. Sutton is due a $13 million base salary in 2024, but only $2 million of his deal is guaranteed. He’s one of the many wideouts that Vegas odds are predicting that he could be traded in this year’s NFL Draft.
According to an odd, they said it’s a +400 possibility that Sutton could be in a new uniform come 2024. This odd conversion translates to a 20% chance that he won’t be playing for the Denver Broncos. Sutton is trailing behind Brandon Aiyuk and Alvin Kamara as potential trade candidates in this year’s NFL Draft. It’s not a high chance but it’s relatively a decent one after plenty of wideout rumors that are spiraling.

AFC Contender Denver Broncos Linked to 24-TD Playmaker Courtland Sutton
His Trade Could be Imminent
The trade could still happen even though the team says they’re not looking to deal with Sutton. The Broncos are looking for a trade partner to move in this year’s Draft. It probably won’t be with the Steelers but it may happen with a team that has a top-10 pick. However, it’s hard to imagine that the Broncos could move on, since trading Jerry Jeudy to the Cleveland Browns.
This would leave whoever they draft as their next quarterback with no reliable targets, so some could understand why they’re hesitant to trade him. It would probably have to be a blockbuster deal that the Broncos would accept if it comes with another wideout. The team has the No. 12 pick in this year’s draft so the chances of selecting a top-tier quarterback are slim. They would have to prioritize getting a top-10 draft pick if someone wants Sutton.
Denver is in the midst of overhauling their entire offense. The team is busy this offseason after trading for Jets quarterback Zach Wilson, and he’s expected to compete with Jarrett Stidham on the depth chart. However, it’s still possible they add a quarterback in the first round so that’s not out of the question. Here are some other team trade fits for Sutton.
Team Trade Fits for Sutton
The Chargers are one good fit since they have the No. 5 pick. So this may intrigue the Broncos to deal Sutton to Los Angeles, especially needing a wideout. The Chargers are without any reliable targets entering this draft after losing Mike Williams and Keenan Allen so it makes sense why this deal may work. Baltimore is another team that could make sense despite extending Rashod Bateman’s contract.
They need someone to complement Zay Flowers on the opposite end so it’s easy to assume that Sutton could be the right fit. Kansas City Chiefs is another team that makes sense since they’ll be without Rashee Rice for some time. Travis Kelce and Rice have been carrying the load last year which would leave Kelce alone as a reliable target for Patrick Mahomes.
