Denver is back in the NFL playoffs for the first time since winning Super Bowl 50. And it’s exciting.
The Denver Broncos are finally back in the playoffs.
I never realized how good Broncos fans had it until this near-decade run of suck. In just about every season since 1983, Denver was a contender. So to say this stretch since winning Super Bowl 50 is foreign is accurate. It also highlights how fun this season has been.
Obviously, we all hope for the best and expect the worst in today’s game for the Broncos against the overmatched Buffalo Bills. After all, Josh Allen and the Bills are the darlings of the NFL and soon-to-be Super Bowl champs. No one stands a chance, let alone Denver that needed to play the Kansas City Chiefs JV team to get into the AFC playoffs.
Sarcasm aside, this moment is not lost on me.
The last eight seasons have been brutal and far from fun.
So however the game goes today at Highmark Stadium, it won’t lessen this season for me as a fan. As I’ve said over the last few months, the Broncos finally have their path back to relevance and success.
Denver seems to finally have its quarterback of the future, head coach, general manager, and ownership group to lead the organization. The Broncos’ entry into the playoffs this season is the latest example.
Whether Denver wins or loses today, I’ll enjoy the fact that this franchise is back in the playoffs. It’s been a long time coming.
