Denver Broncos star cornerback Pat Surtain might take home a prestigious honor following the 2024 NFL season.
Surtain has already been named an AFC starter for the Pro Bowl, and an All-Pro nod is likely on the way. An even bigger accolade might be on deck as well.
Surtain is currently considered the betting favorite to win the NFL’s 2024 Defensive Player of the Year award with -210 odds, according to BetMGM. He passed Pittsburgh Steelers pass rusher T.J. Watt (+175) this week.
Surtain and Watt are the clear front runners, followed by Myles Garrett (+1800), Kerby Joseph (+1800) and Andrew Van Ginkel (+2500). Broncos pass rusher Nik Bonitto (+10000) is tied with the eighth-best odds.
Surtain became the betting favorite after he limited Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase to three receptions for 27 yards in Week 17. Quarterbacks who have targeted Surtain this season have combined for 298 passing yards in 15 games with a combined passer rating of 55.6.
Among the *many* statistics that demonstrate why @PatSurtainll is deserving of Defensive Player of the Year honors, he ranks:
1st in yards allowed per snap: 0.6
1st in passer rating allowed: 56.0
1st in EPA/target: -0.47(Among 120 CBs with 25+ targets, via @NFLPlus)

This fall, Surtain has totaled 11 pass breakups, four interceptions and one forced fumble (which he recovered). Earlier this year, he recorded a 100-yard pick-six with Pro Football Hall of Famer Champ Bailey in attendance. Bailey was snubbed for the Defensive Player of the Year award in 2006. Surtain now has a chance to become just the sixth cornerback to ever win the award.
