The artist Drake raps “how they go from not wantin’ me at all to wanting to see me lose it all?”
It’s the character development that all of the Denver Broncos‘ 13 rookie undrafted free agents have a chance to actualize pertaining to their childhood dream to play in the NFL. But, yes, the odds are stacked against them.
Don’t tell that to Terrell Davis and Phillip Lindsay, though. So, it’s possible. Chris Allen, one of the Broncos’ current rookie undrafted free agents, for example, is a Day 2 or early Day 3 talent that suffered serious season-ending injuries in consecutive seasons. Another man’s trash is another man’s treasure, right? Coach Nathaniel Hackett presumably believes so.
“The undrafted guys — it’s funny. I go back all throughout my career, and there’s always guys that end up even starting for you,” Hackett said last week. “I look at Allen Hurns and Allen Lazard and Lucas Patrick — there’s so many different guys that come in and they make a difference for your football team. There’s a lot of guys on each team.
“So as they start developing and showing themselves up through training camp, they might have an opportunity to play. So right now, I think it’s a little bit early [to know who will stick]. We just had the first day, almost like a Phase 2 day. There’s a lot of good potential out there, but potential is not anything until you get the pads on, and you get to actually do some stuff. We’ll see where that goes within time. Whoever the best guys are, that’s who we want out on the field.”
OTAs start next week. In the meantime, check out the Broncos’ preseason schedule. Then, check out the Broncos’ 13 rookie undrafted free agents as well.
