On the same day the Denver Broncos lost a member of the personnel department, general manager George Paton made a new hire.
The Broncos lost assistant pro scouting director Jordon Dizon to the Philadelphia Eagles, who also hired ex-Denver executive Matt Russell last week.
After losing Dizon, Paton hired Reed Burckhardt as the team’s new director of player personnel, KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis first reported last Wednesday. Burckhardt previously served as the Minnesota Vikings’ director of pro scouting.
Burckhardt had been with the Vikings for 13 seasons, overlapping with Paton’s tenure in Minnesota (2007-2020). Burckhardt will now join Paton’s staff in Denver that also includes executive director of football operations/special advisor to the GM Kelly Kleine, assistant GM Darren Mougey, director of pro personnel A.J. Durso and director of college scouting Brian Stark.
Paton himself started his career in the NFL as an intern scout before working his way up the executive ladder. He’s now giving his staff members similar opportunities to work their way up in the Broncos’ scouting department.
