Johnson is Bo Nix’s brother and former teammate at Oregon and could become teammates again in the NFL.
Oregon wide receiver Tez Johnson might be one of the smaller players at the Combine, but he is also one of the fastest, quickest, and most elusive receivers in the entire draft. He also just so happens to be Broncos quarterback Bo Nix’s brother, and Johnson told reporters today that he had a formal interview with his brother’s team at the Combine.

Coming in at just 5’9, 156 pounds, Johnson is one of the smaller wide receivers in the draft but was a very productive wide receiver while at Oregon. He told reporters that “if you blink, you’ll miss me” when asked about his 40-time and the tape backs that up. He separates quickly, is quick, and a homerun threat when he has the ball in his hands.
A comparison for Tez Johnson is Houston Texans wide receiver Tank Dell who came in at 5’8”, 165 pounds at the Combine a few years back. Sure, he has dealt with a few freak injuries, but his size has not held him back from being a productive wide receiver in the NFL. I think Johnson could follow in his footsteps and be the same type of player for whoever drafts him come this April.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein also compares Johnson to Tank Dell and calls him a productive, high-volume slot receiver who is clever and instinctive with his routes.
Productive, high-volume slot receiver whose evaluation will include balancing the playmaking against his lack of traits. Johnson is thin-limbed with average suddenness and benefited from a scheme allowing him to run free in space. He’s clever and instinctive with his routes, finding ways to uncover over the first two levels. His hands are below average and he struggles when contested, but he’s tough to find and tackle quickly after the catch. Johnson’s lack of size, strength and NFL ball skills mean he’s likely to profile as a good community target rather than succeeding independent of the talent around him.
As for his fit with the Broncos, it’s an interesting one because he would fit what the Broncos like to do on offense, but they already have players who fill those roles. Marvin Mims Jr. is their in-space/gadget/deep threat who flourished in the second half of the season and 2024 fourth round rookie Troy Franklin was used as their deep threat. So, despite the fit and being Bo Nix’s brother, I am not sure the Broncos will be that interested. Head coach Sean Payton seems to like bigger wide receivers who can run block as well, which hurts Johnson’s chances of being drafted.
We’ll see how things go, but I could see Johnson coming off the board sometime in the third or fourth round of the draft, especially if he runs a fast 40-time. If he slips farther into day 3, the odds of him landing on the Broncos go up significantly in my opinion.
What do you think Broncos Country? Should the Broncos draft Bo Nix’s brother Tez Johnson?
