The Broncos met with one of the top tight ends in the draft at the Combine.
According to Texas tight end Gunnar Helm, the Denver Broncos were one of seven teams he had a formal interview with at the Scouting Combine. The Broncos and head coach Sean Payton are in search of a ‘Joker’ at the position and Helm could potentially fill that role for him.

He is a 6’5”, 250 pound tight end prospect out of Texas who is considered one of the top tight end prospects in the entire draft. He is a big target who runs good routes and has soft hands. While he is not the most athletic or explosive tight end in this draft, he is one of the better receiving tight ends in this draft.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compares Helm to Dallas Cowboys tight end Jake Ferguson and calls him a quarterback friendly target capable of moving the sticks.
A combination tight end with good size and soft hands, Helm developed rapidly in the high-scoring Texas offense. He is a capable route runner who can be used on all three levels but was allowed free releases and frequent open looks that he won’t see as a pro. His size, hands and feel for space make him a quarterback-friendly target capable of moving the sticks at opportune times. He’ll need to thicken his lowers and improve his hand usage to handle in-line blocking chores in the NFL. Helm projects as a future TE2 with three-down potential.
The Broncos need to add a pass catcher at tight end and Helm could be that guy for Sean Payton. While I don’t think he is the most explosive option in the draft, he would give Bo Nix a big and reliable target over the middle of the field and in the red zone. He would be an instant upgrade and someone I believe the Broncos could find in the third round of the NFL Draft.
This is a deep, tight-end group, so Payton and the Broncos will have plenty of options in this draft if they decide to go that route, and Helm will be one of those options. Would you like to see the Broncos select tight end Gunnar Helm on day two of the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft.
