While quarterback Russell Wilson may have looked back on his time with the Denver Broncos fondly, one Broncos legend is glad to see him gone.
Taking to X yesterday, Broncos Ring of Fame member Karl Mecklenburg ripped Wilson, saying that he “isn’t a leader” and proved his “self centeredness” through a litany of high-profile incidents over his two years in Denver.
“Russell Wilson isn’t a leader. The foolishness that went on in his first year at Denver with a private coach, his own office at the facility, and family at training camp when other players didn’t have those privileges, proved his self centeredness,” Mecklenburg wrote.
Some Broncos fans were delighted to see someone like Mecklenburg – a six-time Pro Bowler and a five-time All-Pro in 80s and 90s – saying what they all felt about Wilson during his time in Denver.
“Speak on Karl. Walked in the Building like this Franchise hadn’t won anything before an he’s the Savior. As a long time Broncos fan since 1983 I had deep disdain about that. Yeah several down years but The Standard was set by MR. B and Russ wasn’t it,” one user replied.
“Not to mention him, a 10 yr vet supposed HOF QB, standing on the field looking lost WAITING for the rookie HC to get a play in on time. Never would Elway or Manning after 10 yrs let that happen..!!! They would have took matters into their own hands AND called a freaking play,” wrote another.
Others believe that Mecklenburg was just making a mountain of a molehill, pointing out that those were things that Wilson had with the Seattle Seahawks too.
Do you agree with Mecklenburg?
