The Broncos met with exciting running back prospect Cam Skattebo at the Combine.
One of the more curious running back evaluations in the draft will be with Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo. He became a fan favorite in college due to his high-motor and play style, but will that translate to the next level? Well, the Broncos are doing their homework on Skattebo and met with him at the Combine.
Cam Skattebo says he met with the Broncos. “It went well,” he said.

Skattebo is a 5’11”, 215 pound running back who is a powerful runner while also a reliable receiver out the backfield. He lacks high-end athleticism and it remains to be seen if his play-style translates to the next level. Despite that, you won’t find many more exciting players to watch at the college level, so he provides some excitement for whoever drafts him.
NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein compares him to Steelers running back Jaylen Warren and calls him a carnage creator with a compact frame and elite contact balance.
Carnage creator with a compact frame and elite contact balance. Skattebo can break through second-level tacklers and careen off of bodies for extended yards after contact. He reads his blocks quickly and is more elusive in the early stages of the run than he’s probably given credit for. He lacks top-end speed and will have to contend with bigger, better tacklers on the next level. Skattebo’s effectiveness as a receiver out of the backfield should add to his draft value. His physicality and edge should bode well for him as a complementary back with three-down value who is capable of helping an offense wear down the defense.
I am very interested to see how he tests at the Combine. He lacks explosiveness, long speed, and high-level athleticism that other backs in this draft have. However, his elite contact balance, aggressive play-style, and ability as a receiver make him an intriguing prospect.
Sean Payton is an old-school coach who may fall in love with a player like Skattebo. Have him as your short-yardage back, use him in the passing game, and even have him run some Taysom Hill type of plays (He has thrown for a touchdown). I don’t think he’ll be drafted until day 3 and I’d rather see him be the second back drafted by them, but I think he fits what Sean Payton likes to do.
What do you think Broncos Country? Should the Broncos draft Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo in the draft?
