Broncos QB Bo Nix tells reporters he played through a back fracture during the second half of the season

Bo Nix displayed some toughness this season when he played through a back injury for a portion of the season.

Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix did a lot of incredible things during his rookie year, but his display of toughness might be the most impressive. Nix met with the media today and revealed to reporters that he suffered and played through a transverse process fracture in his back. He suffered the injury during the Broncos’ second game vs. the Raiders and played through it during their Monday Night game vs. the Cleveland Browns.

We saw Nix come up wincing during the Raiders game, but he appeared to be fine after that. Little did we know, he was dealing with a back fracture which obviously caused some significant discomfort for him.

He told reporters that he received treatment that week leading up to their Monday Night game vs. the Browns and that he wasn’t going to miss his first Monday Night game of his career. The Broncos had a bye week after that game so he used that time to heal and he said it “kind of went away after that”.

“That week got treatment, made it through that week. Monday Night Football was a stretch where we were all kind of banged up. And I wasn’t going to miss the first Monday night game. I got treatment on it and then we were fortunate to have an off (bye) week the next week and it kind of went away after that.”

Even with a fracture in his back, Nix did not miss much practice at all and played through both games without showing any signs of this injury. Hell, Nix even had his longest touchdown of the year vs. the Browns when he threw an absolute dime between defenders and hit Marvin Mims Jr. for a 93-yard touchdown. He was tossing absolute dimes while dealing with a fractured/broken back which is pretty impressive.

During this stretch, Nix did go through a bit of a slump that carried through the victory over the Colts. While he says his back injury went away after the bye week, Nix would throw 5 of his 12 interceptions during the games vs. the Browns and Colts which came the game before and after the Broncos bye week. This is the period where Nix would be dealing with the injury it makes sense that he would be off his game a bit.

Regardless, this toughness is the thing you want to see from your franchise quarterback. While Nix was playing through a fracture in his back, Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson was checking himself out of a game because he was tired. Nix is already beloved in the Broncos locker room but displaying this amount of toughness just gets him over even more with his coaches, teammates, and fans.

Nix had an incredible rookie season already and the fact he played through a back injury just makes his rookie year even more impressive. The future is bright for the Broncos and Bo Nix is a big reason for that.
