PS2 is the second Broncos player to win the award, joining HOF linebacker Randy Gradishar on the list.
Good morning, Broncos Country!
Pat Surtain II just had one of the best seasons ever by a cornerback.
Thankfully, the rest of the NFL was keen on that and awarded the Denver Broncos cornerback the NFL Defensive Player of the Year. Surtain is now the second player in Broncos history to win the award.
The other is Hall of Fame linebacker Randy Gradishar. The leader of the Orange Crush Defense won the award following the 1978 season.
So it’s fitting the Broncos website got Gradishar to speak about Surtain and this accomplishment.
As Gradishar said:
“We needed another Bronco to come on the show and say, ‘I’m the Defensive Player of the Year.’ All credit goes to him because of the year he’s had and how he’s played. He’s just a really great athlete, and he just reminds me of a guy when I played, Louis Wright. The way he covered passes, the way he covered the run — they didn’t come his way very often. Having the opportunity to have that award is certainly a great honor.”
Gradishar told the team website it’s not just great recognition for Surtain but the franchise as a whole.
“He earned it,” Gradishar said to the Broncos website. “You go through the year, you’re playing, and you’re making big plays. The other 10 guys on the defense are looking at you, and I know he was a very great encourager.”
To make the story even better, a video with congratulatory messages from Nick Saban, Peyton Manning, Aqib Talib, Chris Harris Jr., and his parents is at the top of the page.
Oh, and go, birds! Fly Eagles Fly and FUKC.
