The Denver Broncos were on the verge of winning, but a block game-winning field goal attempt by the Kansas City Chiefs sends them to 5-5 on the season.
It is safe to say that the rivalry between the Denver Broncos and Kansas City Chiefs is back. Since Sean Payton has come to town, they’ve had three hard-fought games where the Broncos have won one of the last two. This game was setup to be two, but the Chiefs miraculous run continued after they blocked the game-winning field goal attempt by Wil Lutz.

As crazy as that game was, the Broncos are on the rise and we should be excited about this team moving forward. Bo Nix is going to be something special in this league and all the team has to do now is catch up to where the Chiefs are now.
First Quarter
Defense is prominent early. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs faced a third down on every single set of downs. While they converted a few, the Broncos defense was able to force punts in each of their first two drives.
Both teams came out a bit sluggish to the start the game, but that changed with the Broncos third offensive possession. After stacking a few first down, Bo Nix found Adam Trautman wide open in the middle of the field. Trautman would turn up field for a 34-yard gain down to the Chiefs 11-yard line just before the quarter.

Second Quarter
Early in the second quarter, Nix and the Broncos faced a third and five from the Chiefs six yard line. He would fire this pass into a wide open Devaughn Vele at the goal line for the first score of the game.

After the Chiefs added a field goal, the Broncos streaked down the field on a few chunk plays before this 32-yard strike to Courtland Sutton from Bo Nix to put Denver up big on the road early.

The Chiefs added a touchdown late thanks in large part to one of the most garbage calls of the season. Instead of a third-down sack and punt, officials gave the Chiefs a five yard penalty and an automatic first down. That gift would catapult them to a touchdown to keep the game close.

Third Quarter
Denver’s offense went into a bit of a hibernation in the third quarter. While they moved the ball, their drives ended with some big sacks. The Chiefs weren’t off to a much better start until Mahomes and the offense put together a 12-play drive that resulted in just a field goal.

Fourth Quarter
Despite pinning the Chiefs to their own five yard line after punting, the Broncos defense couldn’t stop Mahomes and the Chiefs offense. The big play came from Kareem Hunt for a 27-yard gain to get them close to midfield. They wouldn’t cross midfield after rookie Jonah Elliss batted down a Mahomes pass as he was getting pressured by Nik Bonitto.
After a quick three-and-out, the Chiefs found a big play on third and 13 to DeAndre Hopkins who was wide open on a busted coverage for a 31-yard gain to setup the first lead of the game for Kansas City. With just under six minutes to go in the game, the Chiefs held a precarious 16-14 lead after a goal line stand by the Broncos defense.
Bo Nix and the Broncos drove methodically down the field to setup a late score. The Chiefs burned an early timeout and had two in the bank at the two minute warning with the Broncos facing a second and seven at the Chiefs 31-yard line. They would get the first down and milk the clock down all the way.
