The NFL has flexed the Denver Broncos Week 16 game against the Los Angeles Chargers to Thursday Night.
The NFL has decided to flex the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers game in Week 16 from Sunday to prime time on Thursday Night Football. The new start time will be December 19th at 6:15 p.m. Mile High time.
Under the NFL’s new flexible scheduling rules laid out in 2023, they can flex up to two Thursday Night Football games late in the season. Until today, the Broncos had never been flexed in or out of a TNF game. Interestingly, the Broncos gained a bit of an edge over the Cincinnati Bengals with this flex too since the Bengals were one of the teams flexed out of that spot.
Broncos had to sign off on the Week 16 TNF flex, b/c it’s their 2nd TNF road game. They were alerted Tuesday. Interesting element—Denver plays Cincinnati in Week 17 (X-mas week). Bengals got flexed out of TNF. So Denver gains the edge that the Bengals previously had for Week 17.

This will be a huge game that could ultimately decide who gets that spot behind the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West — provided the Chiefs continue to win. In their previous match, the Broncos came out sloppy at home and the Chargers offense couldn’t be stopped. They ran up a 23-0 lead into the fourth quarter. From there, Bo Nix and the Broncos offense woke up with scoring drives of 95 yards, 64 yards, and 74 yards to make it a one-score game, but Denver ran out of possessions and were unable to secure the onside kick to lose 23-16.
Since that game, the Broncos have won three of five, but were one blocked kick away from winning four of five. The Chargers have also won four-straight. So both teams are playing really well and looking like that Week 16 game will be of vital importance to the AFC Playoff seeding.
