An adage expressed that experience is your best teacher, and it mostly can’t be taught, just lived. In the NFL coaching realm, having an experienced coach in the building can help ease the turbulence of professional football.
New Broncos defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero enjoys his version of mentorship from former head coach Dom Capers. Capers is currently the senior defensive assistant with the Broncos as a trusted voice for the defensive side of the ball.
Capers won a championship as the Green Bay Packers’ defensive coordinator in 2010. However, Eji comes with a championship pedigree as the Los Angeles Rams’ secondary coach last season, too. Still, Evero values whatever lessons and ideas the Super Bowl-winning coach can provide.
“Dom has been so valuable, just all the experience and knowledge [that he has],” Evero said. “He’s been so helpful so far in terms of always having the scouting board. [He has] a lot of great ideas, very familiar with the scheme.
“Especially with the youth on our staff, it’s refreshing to have somebody not just for the defensive coordinator but for the defensive line coach and the outside backers and inside backers and for the secondary. He has knowledge on every level. He could be helpful not just to me but our entire staff.”
With experience in the Broncos building, Evero will look to take his experience and the lessons and ideas from Capers to make the Broncos a Super Bowl-winning team.
