Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos will need a new quarterback for next season if they go through with releasing Russell Wilson.
Drew Brees, who played under Payton for 15 seasons while the two were with the New Orleans Saints, recently hinted that the Broncos could look to the draft for their next quarterback.
“There’s always a shakeup, you know what I’m saying? You know, look, there’s some talented guys in the draft. Unfortunately, they traded quite a bit to get Russ in the first place, so if you’re in a position where you love one of these guys and are going to trade up, do you have the assets? I do know this, you really do have to build your team through the draft,” Brees said, via DenverSports.com.
The Broncos will have to be cognizant of their tradeable assets since they have the 12th overall pick in this year’s draft. It’s their only pick in the first two rounds of this year’s draft.
They then have at least one pick in rounds 3-6 of the draft, including two in the fifth round.
While the Broncos are unlikely to get Caleb Williams or Drake Maye, they could try and snag Jayden Daniels if he’s projected to go inside the top 10.
The actual plan will be revealed in due time but it’s still fascinating that Brees may know what’s coming.
