The Broncos can take the next steps towards building the team as free agency starts this week.
Good morning, Broncos Country!
Genuine excitement.
That’s what it feels like to be a Denver Broncos fan again. For the first time since winning Super Bowl 50, there is a path back to relevance and success. And the next step on that path comes this week.
As I noted a few weeks ago, the Broncos finally have their quarterback. Now, the offseason is about strengthening the other roster problem areas. Whether Denver does so via NFL free agency or the NFL Draft, George Paton now has the flexibility to improve the team.
What makes this even more exciting is the Broncos are coming off their first playoff berth in almost a decade and a double-digit winning season. Not to mention an owner and ownership group that is willing and capable of spending money. And Denver finally has some salary cap space to play with. Per Spotrac, the Broncos have $40.7 million in cap space before any possible cuts or reworking of current contracts. Since there are ways to manipulate the cap, having the richest owners in the NFL is a nice ace up the sleeve.
Now, with free agency set to happen this week, that genuine excitement for the future will see more life. How Sean Payton, George Paton, and Denver tackle this part of the offseason will be fascinating. Who will or won’t the Broncos target? Soon we’ll have the answers as to what this roster and team will look like in 2025.
It’s just nice to feel excitement about this franchise and the future again.
