After a respectable 2024, the Broncos are looking to get a lot better in 2025.
At Monday at 10:00am MT, the “legal tampering” period begins in the NFL.
During the period beginning at 12:00 noon, New York time, on March 10 and ending at 3:59:59 p.m., New York time, on March 12, clubs are permitted to contact, and enter into contract negotiations with the certified agents of players who will become Unrestricted Free Agents upon the expiration of their 2024 Player Contracts at 4:00 p.m., New York time, on March 12.
Expect a flurry of free agency news action right at 10am. We’ll know just how productive the illegal tampering period, the days before the start of the official tampering period, was by the number of deals that come down the pike right at 10:01am. You didn’t think they negotiated and came to agreement organically once the period opened, did you?
For the first time in forever, the Broncos have money to spend in free agency and blue chip picks to burn in the draft. The days of settling for guys who were affordable and might work out are going to give way to targeted acquisitions that give the Broncos the best chance to field a more-competitive team in 2025.
While Denver may not yet be seen around the league as an optimal free agency destination, the improved 2024 season is beginning to make the case that the Broncos are turning their losing ways around. Not every free agent is clamoring to come to Denver, but on the bright side, they’re not going to instinctively avoid it like something found sticky and wet on a sidewalk.
There is no doubt in my mind that the 2025 Broncos are going to be much improved over that 2024 squad. Today is the day they can start making those linchpin deals to make that happen.
Buckle up!
