Broncos know a thing or two about blowouts.
If you’re a Broncos fan, you were pumped when the Kansas City Chiefs were down to Philadelphia Eagles, 34-0 in the 3rd quarter. If you are a Broncos fan of a certain age, you were really excited. Ever since the 55-10 Super Bowl loss the Broncos endured at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers back in 1989, Broncos Country has been looking for another team to wear the mantle of “worst Super Bowl loss in NFL history.”
Being on the wrong end of 3 of the top-5 worst blowouts, Broncos fans were right to be hopeful. Sadly, the flurry of garbage points at the end of the game made this loss look a little better for the record books. Had the 34-point margin carried through to the end of the game, it would have become the 5th worst blowout in NFL history, pushing Super Bowl XXI, Broncos-Washington, 42-10 loss, down the list.
While the record books will show this game as closer than it was, the whole world saw that comic display of ineptitude stinking its way out of the Kansas City huddle. Make no mistake, the Chiefs were dominated in every facet of the game and were exposed as the football frauds most suspected they were.
In a season where referee coddling and a freak blocked field goal catapulted a mediocre Chiefs team to the championship, it was refreshing to to see reality fall onto Chiefs Kingdom like a skydiver without a parachute.
Sunday’s game was an ass-kicking of the best sort. The Chiefs were exposed and embarrassed to the glee of the NFL world. After having been forced to watch literally thousands of commercials over the season featuring Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid, Travis Kelce, or combinations of all three, Sunday’s Super Bowl was payback for all that “Fumblerooski” ass-hattery.
While it wasn’t a loss to rival 55-10, it was a Chiefs beating to remember. I’ll take that every day of the week.
