The Broncos took Jahdae Barron in the first round. What does this say about the Broncos’ front office?
No one expected the Denver Broncos to go cornerback in the first round of the 2025 draft. I’d also feel comfortable saying no one likely thought Jahdae Barron would fall to 20, either.
The Broncos made a pick that looks on the surface like a team taking the best talent that fell to them in the draft.
I think the hype of the draft gets in the way of reality at times for many of us out in Broncos Country. I firmly have not forgotten how poor our secondary looked last season against good quarterbacks. The Browns, Chargers, Ravens, and Bills just off the top of my head absolutely made our secondary look weak.
Cornerback was absolutely a need coming into this draft. Don’t get me wrong, I like the effort I saw from Ja’Quan McMillian, Kris Abrams-Draine, and Damarri Mathis. But none of these guys were the answer for helping seal up the holes in the secondary so that good quarterbacks didn’t have constant easy answers when they needed to pass.
I’m sure everyone in the war room for the Broncos loved this player, but I’d bet a dime to a dollar that George Paton was loud about this player falling to 20.
This is a draft pick that a team with patience, long-term vision, and serenity makes. Breathe easy, Broncos Country. This team is in good hands, even if they didn’t draft the position you were hungry for.
