Probably. Add in his special teams ability and there could be some big breakout games for Marvin Mims this season.
A post from Justin Melo from The Draft Network broke down the Denver Broncos wide receiver situation and came to the conclusion that second-year wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. is a strong breakout candidate this season.
Some of the key reasons for this that Melo laid out were:
- Jerry Jeudy’s departure leaves a convenient void for Mims to fill.
- Mims averaged over 17 yards per catch. No other Bronco was within 2 yards of that mark.
- Quarterbacks had a 105.9 rating when targeting Mims.
- He averages 26.5 yards per kick off return and returned one for a touchdown.
- Game-breaking speed.
I’d have to agree with Justin here. Mims had — by all accounts — a solid rookie campaign in Denver. He should see his role expand heavily from there. Denver did their best address their wide receiver group with Jerry Jeudy’s departure.
If I had to give me early depth chart projections, I’d have to go with Courtland Sutton, Marvin Mims Jr, Tim Patrick, Josh Reynolds, Troy Franklin as probably locks on the 53-man roster. But they also have Michael Bandy, Phillip Dorsett, Lil’Jordan Humphre, Brandon Johnson, Jalen Virgil, David Sills, and rookie Devaughn Vele in the mix.
I actually like this group a lot. I think they will out produce the group when they had Jeudy anyway. I always liked Jeudy’s route-running, but he was doomed here with Russell Wilson. And his frustration was likely coming to a breaking point anyway. Fresh starts all around.
What do you think the Broncos wide receiver group? Who is the most likely breakout candidate?
