The third-year player from Oklahoma has become one of the best pass rushers in the National Football League.
Good morning, Broncos Country.
Bo Nix has received a lot of praise and accolades over the past few weeks for his performance on the offensive side of the ball. However, he isn’t the only player on the Denver Broncos who has been on a hot streak. There is one particular player on defense who has shined bright and that’s third-year edge rusher Nik Bonitto.
Before the season began, I authored that Bonitto was the defensive breakout candidate to watch for during the team’s 2024 campaign. Last year he had 8 sacks which was quite impressive given the number of snaps played. To date, he already has 9 sacks and 16 quarterback hits with six games left to play.

His sack total ranks only behind Trey Hendrickson and is tied with Dexter Lawrence II for the second-most in the NFL. My prediction of him reaching double digit sacks seems quite reasonable with that in mind. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if he reaches 15 sacks on the season or is even the league’s leader in that regard when it is all said and done.
He is playing lights out and deserves a lot of love from Broncos Country. It’s not just him though. The coaching from Vance Joseph as well has undoubtedly played a significant role in his rapid ascension.
Earlier this year, the Broncos signed Jonathon Cooper to a long-term deal. Pending Bonitto’s play the rest of the year, I wouldn’t be surprised if the franchise ends up approaching him about a lucrative extension as well. He has certainly earned it and the two have proven themselves to be one of the best pass rusher duos in football.
As always—thank you for reading. Here is today’s slate of articles for Horse Tracks.
