According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Seattle Seahawks wide receiver DK Metcalf has requested a trade. How would Broncos Country feel about trading for him?
Good morning, Broncos Country.
With free agency just days away, a lot of breaking news is happening across the National Football League. Whether it’s extensions prior to the beginning of the market opening or player trades, various moves have been happening the past 24 hours.
One of the biggest tidbits to hit the waves yesterday was ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting that Seattle Seahawks receiver DK Metcalf has requested a trade. He joins a long list of multiple veteran receivers who are looking to get out of their current situations.
Seahawks WR DK Metcalf has requested a trade, per source. The request came today after a series of conversations over the past two weeks. Metcalf prefers a contender.

According to OverTheCap, Metcalf is scheduled to account for nearly $32 million dollars against the salary cap in 2025. It’s the final year of his three-year extension he signed several seasons ago. Quite frankly, there’s absolutely no way the Broncos could afford that number outright. That amount would count for most all the space they have.
However, if a potential trade were to occur, an extension would have to be a part of the deal. There’s basically no other way a trade could happen if that wasn’t the case. Speaking of extensions, General Manager George Paton acknowledged at this year’s combine that he will be speaking to Courtland Sutton’s agents on a new contract. The long-time veteran is also in the final year of his. If they aren’t able to come to an agreement, perhaps the Broncos might shift their focus and look toward finding a replacement.
Should the Broncos inquire on Metcalf? I think so. It’s a smart practice to see what the asking price is for quality players that can upgrade the roster. Should they make the deal? In my view, it only makes sense if there is an extension that significantly lowers his cap hit for the coming season. If that were to happen, I’d expect Sutton to be moved. I doubt they’d pay both of them premium salaries. Metcalf is a few years younger than Sutton and has comparable production and would fit the ‘X’ profile in Payton’s offense very well.
All things considered; it seems highly unlikely a trade in this regard would take place. But you never know. Stranger things have happened!
