The guy who was Bo Nix’s security blanket early in the season is likely to be back at some point soon.
The Denver Broncos have struggled in the pass game. Bo Nix had 60 yards passing during last week’s win over the New York Jets and Courtland Sutton had all of those for himself. One key player missing from the lineup in recent weeks has been rookie wide receiver Devaughn Vele.
The young receiver hauled in eight catches for 39 yards in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, but was ruled out in Week 2 with a rib injury. He was a full participant on the injury report in Week 3, but was among the team’s gameday inactives. Last week, he wasn’t on the injury report at all week and was still among the gameday inactives.
Head Coach Sean Payton was finally asked about Vele’s progress and he said he would be back ‘sooner than later’
“He’s playing sooner than later,” Payton said on Friday. “He’s doing well.”
Typically a player coming back from injury isn’t on the gameday inactives for multiple weeks after removed from the injury report, so I’m curious about that. I personally liked what I saw from Vele in Week 1 and hope he is, in fact, back into the lineup sooner than later.
