Sean Payton and Bo Nix had a promising first season together in the NFL.
Nix earned an invite to the Pro Bowl as an alternate after he totaled more than 4,200 yards and scored 34 touchdowns as a rookie. With Nix under center, the Denver Broncos went 10-7 and reached the NFL playoffs for the first time since 2015.
The franchise certainly appears to be trending in the right direction under Payton and Nix, and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning expects that trend to continue.
“I could just tell Sean liked him from the get-go,” Manning said during an interview with Brandon Stokley and Mike Evans on Denver Sports 104.3 The Fan in January (via @MaseDenver). “I remember Sean talking about his private workouts and sort of their conversations. You could tell Sean was interested in him early on as a player, as a person. And I think he’s been everything that Sean was kind of hoping he would be. Just a gym rat, a guy that loves ball, a guy that wants more. ‘Hey, give me more, I can handle it.’
“And so, definitely between a play-caller and a quarterback, you want a good relationship. Between the head coach and the quarterback, you want the same — and obviously Sean’s both. And so it’s been a good fit … and I just see it continuing to get better.”

Payton and Nix will look to build on their first season together and get beyond the first round of the playoffs in 2025. The club reached the postseason for the first time since Manning’s retirement last fall. Now the next step is making some noise in the playoffs.
