Backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham could resign a new contract with the Denver Broncos which may spell the end for third-string Zach Wilson. According to a source, the Broncos may face a decision after the postseason of who could be their long-term backup option behind rising star Bo Nix. Both Stidham and Wilson are on expiring contracts but only one has the true desire to stay put in Denver. Stidham addressed the media stating he’s open to being the backup if Denver needs it while they already found their high-mobile signal-caller for the future.
However, Wilson has never come close to becoming a reliable starter since failing his first few seasons with the New York Jets. Originally selected in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the former BYU product was an emergency quarterback for the majority of the 2024 campaign so he might be ready to take on other roles in a different scenery. With that, he might have a great opportunity to earn a No. 2 spot on a new team since he has more opportunities in his young career to revitalize in the league after his dead tenure with the Jets. Wherever he lands, he should be able to land a decent contract even if it’s a one-year to get more experience before eventually earning a starting position.

Insurance Policy for Young
The Carolina Panthers have their faith in quarterback Bryce Young despite benching him early in the 2024 campaign. Head Coach Dave Canales needs to ensure Young has the right weapons for a new turnaround but Carolina should look for a new backup considering Andy Dalton is getting to a point where hanging his cleats seems imminent as he heads to free agency. It’s clear that Zach Wilson has similar characteristics given the size and arm skills they have so this might be worth the gamble for the Panthers. This should buy Wilson some time to learn a new system and it shouldn’t be a surprise if he gets a new opportunity with the Panthers.
Canales may say Young will be their starter but after giving up on him two regular season games in, it seems like the Panthers won’t have a hard time replacing him again. However, in the worst way, Wilson should probably use this to his advantage while he didn’t have reliable playmakers when he was a Jet and didn’t get a chance in Denver since Nix has been balling all 2024. Despite that, with the right weapons alongside Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker, they should be in serious business this upcoming season.
Journey to Full-Time Duties
Wilson could have one more chance in the NFL before probably needing to head to a new league for opportunities. The New Orleans Saints are bringing back Derek Carr as they have no desire to rebuild. However, they should add another quarterback behind rookie Spencer Rattler to help both of these signal-callers develop at the same time. Rattler didn’t have a successful few games that Carr was out with an injury so they might as well test him to see if he can win the No. 2 spot over Wilson.
