It’ been unveiled. When are we going to see it?
Trying to guess where in the 2024 schedule the Denver Broncos are going to wear their classic D throwback uniform is a bit trickier than one would think. Here you have a team that isn’t projected to win a lot. The uniform is beloved by just about everyone over 30 because those Broncos teams that wore that wore it were amazing. So when do you dust off one of the greatest uniforms of all time?
It can’t be too early into the season, there are other new uniforms that the public needs to warm to. It can’t be too late in the season, these uniforms are central to keeping the Broncos news-worthy even when they are struggling. Then you’ve got to assume that Denver will wear the orange and powder blues at home. Now, in case you missed it, last week the Broncos announced the latest additions to the Broncos Ring of Fame, Riley Odoms and Steve Foley. Early word is that the 1977 AFC Champion team and hall of famer Randy Gradishar (it feels so great to type that) will also be honored on the same night.
With all these throwback Denver players swirling around on the same night, it’s hard to think that the Broncos won’t go retro when they play the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, October 6. It’s early enough in the season that if the team is still somewhat relevant if they struggle to start. It’s a classic rivalry that the Broncos have been on the losing-end of for far too long and so the uni-switch may be just what the doctor ordered to flush the Raiders back from whence they came. (Broncos should flush twice just to be safe.)
If they wear the throwbacks twice, it’s a good bet that the Broncos will bust them out again on Monday, December 2 against the Cleveland Browns. Outside of the Raiders, there is no other team that is haunted by the snot-rocket Bronco logo than the people of Cleveland who had to suffer through so many AFC Championship comebacks. Those orange and powder blues are the stuff of nightmares for Browns fans. How perfect would it be to taunt them on national television with flashbacks to The Drive and The Fumble?
Personally, I think the Broncos should just go throwback full-time, but I’m over 30 and my opinion doesn’t matter. What do you think? Are there other games on the schedule that scream throwbacks?
