Javonte Williams, Dallas Cowboys, Agree to Contract
The 2024 season was something of a mixed bag for Javonte Williams. While he stayed healthy for the full 17-game season, the North Carolina product wasn’t overly effective in Sean Payton’s offense. Starting in 11 games, Williams finished the season with 513 yards and four rushing touchdowns on 139 carries (3.7 yards per attempt) to go along with 52 receptions for 346 yards. With Williams’ help, the Broncos made it to the playoffs with first-round pick Bo Nix, but they lost to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round.
Javonte Williams originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Selected by the Denver Broncos, the rookie began his career in a timeshare with veteran Melvin Gordon. Appearing in all 17 games, Williams finished his inaugural season with 903 rushing yards and four touchdowns on 203 attempts to go along with 316 yards and three touchdowns on 43 receptions, good for a combined 1,219 yards from scrimmage.
Following his promising rookie season, Williams had the opportunity to become the clear-cut three-down back in 2023. Unfortunately, the second-year pro suffered a season-ending injury after just four games, limiting him to just 47 attempts for 204 yards and 16 receptions for 76 yards.
Williams returned to the field in 2023 but lacked the same burst as before his injury. Appearing in 16 games while making 13 starts, the running back finished the season with 774 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 217 attempts. He also added 47 receptions for 228 yards and two touchdowns through the air as Denver missed the playoffs for the third time in his three seasons with the team.
Since signing his rookie contract, Javonte Williams has appeared in 54 games while making 29 starts. While on the field, the second-round pick has recorded 606 carries for 2,394 yards and 11 touchdowns.
