The 28-year coach will join newly hired Ben Johnson’s staff in Chicago and be his offensive coordinator. It came out yesterday that Doyle was considered a top candidate for the job and a day later, he landed the job. Now, we will look to get Caleb Williams and the Bears offense back on track in the very competitive NFC North division.
Doyle has been the Broncos tight end’s coach the past two seasons under head coach Sean Payton. He previously was a coach on the New Orleans Saints, but like many other former Saints coaches, he followed Payton to Denver. With the Saints, he was an Offensive Assistant from 2019 to 2022 and has been the Broncos tight end’s coach from 2023 to 2024. Now, he joins Ben Johnson’s staff with the Bears as their offensive coordinator.
Johnson will be the play-caller for the Bears and quarterback Caleb Williams this upcoming season, but Doyle would be a key part of his offensive coaching staff and help teach and prepare the players throughout the week.
Doyle joins a growing list of Broncos coaches and executives who have been receiving interviews, interest, and hired by other teams. Defensive Coordinator Vance Joseph interviewed with the Jets and Raiders for their head coaching positions, front office member David Shaw interviewed for multiple head coaching jobs, assistant GM Darren Mougey appears to be the front runner for the New York Jets GM job, and now Doyle is a frontrunner for the Bears OC job. Sean Payton’s coaching tree already includes the likes of Dan Campbell, Joe Lombardi, Aaron Glenn, Joe Brady, and Dennis Allen and is continuing to grow. Quarterback’s coach Davis Webb is expected to receive interest this year or next year while DB’s coach Jim Leonhard could as well.
I would expect more Broncos coaches to get more looks from other teams as these newly hired coaches begin to assemble their coaching staffs.
