Shaw interviewed for their head coaching job and is now interviewing for their offensive coordinator job.
According to the Chicago Tribune’s Brad Biggs, the Chicago Bears have requested to interview Broncos senior personnel executive David Shaw for their offensive coordinator position. He joins Broncos tight ends coach Declan Doyle who is considered a top candidate for that job as a contender to be Ben Johnson’s offensive coordinator with the Bears.
#Bears have also requested to interview David Shaw for the offensive coordinator job. He was interviewed for the HC position.

Ben Johnson who was hired by the Bears to be their head coach earlier this week has been quickly assembling his coaching staff. While he will run the Bears offense and call plays, he needs someone who he can trust to help with game-planning, teaching, and preparing for the game throughout the week. Shaw is a veteran coach who has experience in college, and in the NFL, and is known as a top talent evaluator would be a great addition to Ben Johnson’s coaching staff.
Shaw interviewed for the Bears head coaching job during their coaching search and apparently left a good impression on them and now is getting a second look.
Shaw joined the Broncos back in June of this past year and was going to join General Manager George Paton’s staff and would evaluate pro and college talent. He also interviewed for the Broncos head coaching job in 2023 before the team hired Sean Payton to be their coach.
He is a well-respected and rather intelligent football mind recently re-signed from Stanford because of the direction of the football program. However, before that, he was widely regarded as one of the better football minds in the game. He also provided his insight on draft prospects during NFL Network’s draft coverage.
Shaw took over the Stanford job back in 2011 when now Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh left the program to be the 49ers’ head coach. Before that, he served as Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator at Stanford and even coached with Harbaugh at the University of San Diego as his passing game coordinator.
Now, Shaw does have some NFL experience as well. He spent nine years in the NFL before joining Harbaugh at the University of San Diego. He has stints with the Philadelphia Eagles(on the same coaching staff as Sean Payton) Oakland Raiders, and the Baltimore Ravens. So he is not just strictly a college coach but a coach with experience at both levels.
If Shaw were to join the Bears coaching staff, it would be a bit of a blow to the Broncos’ scouting department. However, they have a solid staff led by General Manager George Paton who has put together multiple solid draft classes since being hired as the Broncos GM.
