Klis would later update his story with more details from the incident. According to the probable cause statement, Wilhoite left his vehicle unintended in the second lane of the departure area at Denver International Airport. The Denver Police officer working on a curb assignment at the airport told him he could not park there. Wilhoite responded by telling the police officer to “shut the (expletive) up,” twice. The statement continues by saying that Wilhoite approached the officer, and bumped his chest into the officer which caused the officer to shove him back. Wilhoite responded by punching the officer in the face causing the officer to fall to the ground. TMZ adds that he punched him in the right side of the face with a closed left fist, forcing him to the ground.
Wilhoite then approached the officer and bumped his chest into the officer, causing the officer to step back, the statement says. The officer shoved Wilhoite back and then Wilhoite punched the officer, causing the officer to fall to the ground, according to the statement.
According to the statement, Wilhoite was later tased when he was returning to his car but would drive away after the effects of the taser wore off.
TMZ is reporting that the officer involved in this incident reported injuries to his knees, pain in his right jaw area, and possible internal ailments to his left wrist.
Klis adds that a Denver Broncos spokesperson said: “We are aware of a situation involving Michael Wilhoite that occurred Sunday and are in the process of gathering more information,’’.
Wilhoite played in the NFL as a linebacker for the San Francisco 49ers and the Seattle Seahawks from 2011 through the 2017 season. He would start his coaching career with the New Orleans Saints in 2019 as a Special Teams assistant and then become their Defensive Assistant in 2020. He would become the Chargers‘ Linebackers coach from 2021 through 2022 before joining Sean Payton’s staff in Denver in 2023 as their Outside Linebackers coach
We’ll see if this arrest and incident impact Wilhoite’s tenure with the team moving forward. The Broncos already fired inside linebacker coach Greg Manusky earlier this offseason and have yet to replace him. So, we’ll have to see if they need to find two new linebacker coaches this offseason.
We’ll update this story when more details and updates become available.
