The Broncos add to their receiver depth by adding Trent Sherfield.
According to Jordan Schultz of Fox Sports, the Denver Broncos have signed veteran wide receiver/special teamer Trent Sherfield to a two-year, $6 million dollar deal that has $2 million dollars of incentives built in per Mike Klis.

Trent Sherfield is a 6-1, 206 pound wide receiver who is 29 years old and has been a journeyman player throughout his career. While he is listed as a wide receiver, he primarily plays special teams and just adds depth to your wide receiver room. KOA’s Benjamin Allbright reached out to a former teammate who described Sherfield as a “Glue guy” who does everything and that is basically known for his blocking and special teams work.
The Broncos did lose core special teamer Tremon Smith to the Texans on Monday, so Sherfield could be viewed as his replacement. He could also be viewed as Lil’Jordan Humphrey’s replacement as well with his run blocking skills being listed as a strength.
He is a journeyman player who started his career with the Cardinals and played for them from 2018 through the 2020 season, and then he had one-year stints with the 49ers, Dolphins, Bills, Vikings, and now joins the Broncos. Through his seven seasons in the NFL, he has appeared in 112 games and has 86 receptions for 1,013 yards, and 6 touchdowns.
Sherfield profiles as a Sean Payton type of player who can do a lot of the dirty work and be a key member of the 53-man roster. He can play special teams, he can block, he can play receiver, and be a good member of the team. The fact he has made a career of this despite not being a productive receiver shows how valuable he is as a locker room player and on special teams.
Not the sexiest signing but it’s a signing you need to fill out your 53-man roster and do all the dirty work that goes unnoticed by many on the field.
