The New York Jets are hiring Denver Broncos assistant GM Darren Mougey to be their new General Manager according to reports.
According to ESPN’s lead NFL insider Adam Schefter, the New York Jets are hiring Denver Broncos assistant general manager Darren Mougey as their new General Manager. The Jets hired Aaron Glenn to be their head coach earlier in the week and now have hired Mougey to be their general manager.

He was brought in for a second interview earlier this week and was named a finalist for the Jets general manager job along with two others. He was rumored to be their top candidate throughout the week and now the longtime Broncos executive will look to rebuild the New York Jets moving forward.
Mougey who is 39 years old has been with the Broncos organization for 13 years and has risen through the ranks during his time with the team and is currently their assistant General Manager.
He started with the team as a scouting intern in 2012, was a personnel and scouting assistant in 2013, a college and pro personnel scout in 2014, an area scout from 2014 through 2019, then became the team assistant director of college scouting in 2020, to becoming the director of player personnel in 2021, to finally becoming the Broncos assistant general manager, a position he has held since 2022.
As Fox Sports and NFL Network’s Peter Schrager notes, Mougey has been a sounding board for Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton. He states that Payton is close with newly hired head coach Aaron Glenn, so he likely put in a good word for Mougey who now has been hired.
The New York Jets are a team in disarray after yet another disappointing five-win season that was full of controversy. They fired both their head coach and GM during the season, the team was surrounded by drama and controversy all season, Aaron Rodgers played poorly, a trade for Davante Adams did not provide a spark, still employed Nathaniel Hackett, and finished with 5 wins on the year.
Now, Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn will have to decide if they want quarterback Aaron Rodgers back, decide if they want to keep veterans like Davante Adams, while also attempting to find their quarterback of the future. It won’t be an easy task, but Mougey has certainly earned the opportunity to be a general manager in the NFL.
