Russell Wilson is set to know his future with the Denver Broncos sooner rather than later.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton announced at the NFL Combine on Tuesday that a decision should be coming within the next week or two.
“I expect that we’re going to know fairly quickly about a Russell Wilson move. Sometime in the neighborhood of next week. The next two weeks,” Payton said.
Most people expect the Broncos to release Wilson since things haven’t gone according to plan with him as the starting quarterback. They’ve missed the playoffs in both seasons with him at the helm and he hasn’t been able to recapture the magic he had with the Seattle Seahawks.
If he does get released, he’ll be looking for a fresh start with a new team that needs a starter.
He’ll also come a lot cheaper considering the level he’s played at since coming to Denver. Maybe teams like the Atlanta Falcons or Pittsburgh Steelers could look at him since they’ll be in the market for a quarterback this offseason.
These next few weeks are going to get fairly busy since the new league year is set to start in mid-March.
