We already knew Denver Broncos quarterbacks Bo Nix, Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson took a vacation to Mexico with their significant others after the 2024 season wrapped up. Now we know that the QBs were joined by two NFL coaches.
During an interview with Kay Adams ahead of the Super Bowl last week, Broncos coach Sean Payton revealed that he and Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay also vacationed in Cabo with the QBs.
“We were in Cabo a week ago and McVay and his wife were there,” Payton told Adams on Feb. 5. “We kind of had everyone over at the house. We had a McVay rule in Cabo — he couldn’t talk to Bo Nix. … Because I think that’s where he — the Cabo thing.”
McVay, of course, was at the same Cabo resort as Matthew Stafford when the Rams acquired the quarterback in a trade with the Detroit Lions in 2021. They insist that was a coincidence, but Payton clearly didn’t want to take any chances with his QB in Cabo with McVay.
Payton obviously doesn’t want to lose Nix, but he and McVay might have discussed another potential trade. The Rams are looking to trade Cooper Kupp this offseason and the Broncos are listed as the betting favorites to land the wide receiver. Kupp’s status will certainly be worth monitoring this offseason.
Payton also discussed the (underwhelming) golf game of his QBs.
“We went golfing the next day [with] the quarterbacks,” Payton continued. “And as much as a love these guys as quarterbacks, they are awful golfers. I’m like, ‘I don’t know who we’re beating as a team collectively [in golf].’”
Fortunately, Nix and Co. won’t be asked to win any golf tournaments for the Broncos anytime soon. Now we wait to see if Kupp will join the squad in 2025.
