Eighteen years into his head coaching career in the National Football League, Sean Payton feels reinvigorated by coaching a youthful Denver Broncos squad.
The Denver Broncos embarked on a major overhaul of their roster during this past offseason. One could say their motto was, “Out with the old, in with the new.” By doing so, they went from being one of the oldest teams in the National Football League to one of the youngest.
A large part of that was out of necessity due to the enormous dead cap hit incurred by moving on from Russell Wilson. However, another main reason was to help change the identity and culture of the squad. All offseason, the Broncos’ coaching staff and players talked about their youthfulness being an advantage. It might not be a substitute for experience, but perhaps make them hungrier relative to achievement and progress.
Only time will tell if that’s the case as their 2024 campaign unfolds.
There is no doubt year’s team will experience their up and downs. Even so, for the first time in many years, fans across Broncos Country seem far more open to it. Predicated on the belief the team is building toward something special as opposed to enduring more of the same. Entering his 18th season as a Head Coach in the National Football League, longtime sideline commander Sean Payton talked about how the youthful Broncos have reinvigorated him.
“To your question, yes. I think one of the perks about this job is you get to work with young people. I think that’s something we don’t take lightly,” stated Payton.
Sean Payton had a great quote about coaching:
“If I say to the players, ‘Man, we need to play fast,’ well then, we as coaches need to give them the menu that allows that. Too much can cause just some hesitation relative to what exactly we’re doing.”

While getting results on the field is what pays big dividends in the league, coaches like Payton know that the best part of his job go beyond that.
“We have a chance to teach and coach, and honestly, we have a chance to change lives, just like our high school and grade schoolteachers have done. That’s really the best part of it, when you see someone progress and have success. That’s pretty rewarding.”
A young team like Denver has requires a head coach with experience and wisdom. Throughout the course of his career, Payton has demonstrated those things. The Broncos had a successful training camp, undefeated preseason, and have prepared soundly for the battle to come against the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday.
You know what would reinvigorate Broncos Country after eight years of having the doldrums? Starting of the season with a W. That’s what we are looking for to kick off the season the right way.
