Here are my Top 10 plays from the Denver Broncos 2024 season. Too many to choose from, but let’s try!
After a fantastic season that turned away nearly a decade of disappointment, the Denver Broncos are back. Not only that, they have a franchise quarterback in Bo Nix who enjoyed one of the most successful seasons by a rookie quarterback in NFL history. Given they won 10 games and got into the AFC playoffs, we’ve got some big plays to share this year.
Here are my Top 10 plays from the Broncos 2024 season.
1. Miracle fourth down throw and catch at end of regulation
This fourth down play should have ended the game. Bo Nix was immediately pressured and being chased down and Marvin Mims Jr. was double-covered. Yet somehow, Nix got enough arm strength on the ball and, somehow, Mims came down with the contested catch to send the game into overtime.

Just an insane effort and insane play in a do-or-die moment. There’s just no way I can put any single play above this one.
2. Pat Surtain with game-changing 100 yard pick six
The Broncos playoff run began when they were down 10-3 at home to the Las Vegas Raiders and on the verge of falling behind by three scores when Pat Surtain II had enough of that nonsense and picked off Gardner Minshew that sparked a Broncos blowout home win.

Denver would win nine of twelve during that turnaround and ultimately secure a playoff berth.
3. Nik Bonitto puts away the pesky Browns
The Cleveland Browns came to play on Monday Night Football and the game was very much in doubt when Jameis Winston finally began making mistakes. The first — and most critical — came on this pick six from Nik Bonitto.

That interception led to more interceptions, but for Bonitto it led towards his first Pro Bowl selection and a second-team All-Pro award.
4. Marvin Mims Jr. buries those pesky Browns
If that interception wasn’t enough, Bo Nix and Marvin Mims Jr. absolutely buried them with the longest play from scrimmage on offense this season.

That throw from Bo Nix was a rocket of a deep pass, especially coming from his own end zone on third and long. Mims hauled it in and no one was going to catch him from there.
5. Nik Bonitto ends the Colts playoff hopes
The Indianapolis Colts needed to win to keep their playoff hopes alive and they played a darn good game up until Jonathan Taylor committed a horrendous error dropping the football on what should have been a long touchdown run.
From there, the Broncos woke up. The Colts tried a trick play and that turned into a treat for Nik Bonitto who took the backwards pass for a long fumble return for a touchdown.

That catapulted the Broncos to a blowout home win and a 91% chance of making the playoffs.
6. Bo Nix launches a nuke to Marvin Mims Jr.
Bo Nix coming out of college was compared to Alex Smith as a check-down merchant. Yet, he finished with the fourth-most deep passing yards and had the fourth-best passer rating on deep throws. None deeper than this rocket to Marvin Mims Jr.

Those 67 air yards were the second-longest since Next Gen began tracking this stat in 2016. It was a beautiful pass.
7. Courtland Sutton to Bo Nix for the touchdown? Wut?
Speaking of trickery…
The Broncos busted out the trick play against the Baltimore Ravens. Courtland Sutton tossed a ball to Bo Nix at the goal line for a touchdown in what ended up a blowout loss to the Ravens.
PHILLY SPECIAL!!

That defeat was the first sign the Broncos were good, but not quite elite. Even so, a franchise with the second-longest playoff drought has to start somewhere!
8. Marvin Mims Jr. shows why he is first-team All-Pro returner
Marvin Mims led the NFL in punt return yards and average, but no return was bigger than this 61-yarder.

This punt return set the stage for 21-point fourth quarter run that ended the Colts playoff chances.
9. Bo Nix finally finds Troy Franklin deep
If you’ve watched every Broncos game this year, you will recall how many times Bo Nix went deep to an open Troy Franklin only to have his pass slightly off target. In their first playoff together, however, Nix finally found Franklin deep for the first rookie to rookie touchdown connection in playoff history.

While the Buffalo Bills won the game, the Broncos turnaround has given us a ton of hope heading into the 2025 season.
10. No one does it better than Courtland Sutton
I decided to end this list with a Courtland Sutton catch. There were so many insane grabs by Sutton, that it was difficult to find the most impressive one. This near one-handed touchdown grab against the Los Angeles Chargers was not only incredible, but the concentration to ensure he got his knee down was just outstanding.

There you have it. These are my Top 10 Broncos plays of the season. I’m sure I left a few notables out, but hopefully I didn’t miss any egregious big plays or I’ll be upset with myself.
