Last summer, former Denver Broncos executive John Elway admitted that passing on Wyoming quarterback Josh Allen with the fifth overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft was the biggest mistake of his career as a general manager.
Allen, who now plays for the Buffalo Bills, is a three-time Pro Bowler who is one of the favorites to win the NFL MVP award this season.
Ahead of his playoff game against his old team on Sunday, Bills pass rusher Von Miller was asked about Denver passing on Allen in the 2018 draft.
“We made a great pick with Bradley Chubb,” Miller said during his media availability on Wednesday. “Obviously, hindsight is 20/20. I’m sure if Elway had that back — we had a chance to get Kyle Shanahan as well and it was just too perfect.
“Daddy Shanahan was there and won two Super Bowls. Now we can get Kyle Shanahan and Josh too — it might have been too perfect for him to make that decision. Sometimes the easiest decisions are the hardest ones to make.”
Miller went on to praise his former teammates, saying drafting Chubb was not a bad decision, and he also praised former quarterback Case Keenum and ex-head coach Vance Joseph.
“Coach Vance Joseph is one of my favorite coaches ever, hands down,” Miller said. “So definitely not any mistakes, but hindsight is always 20/20. Regret will eat you up until you’re old in age. … [But] I think any GM that passed him up in that draft was like, ‘Man, we could have got him.’”

Allen is 2-1 against the Broncos in his career, with the lone defeat being a 24-22 loss at home on Monday Night Football last season. Elway is no longer employed by Denver, but Bo Nix getting an upset win on Sunday would help Broncos fans move on from that 2018 mistake.
