Just about every NCAA Tournament there is a “Cinderella” who goes from being a massive underdog to making a deep run during March Madness. If we get another one this year, Sports Illustrated has an idea of which team it will be.
On Monday, SI’s Kevin Sweeney listed off 10 potential bracket busters with some notable names on the list. Loyola-Chicago, Indiana, Chattanooga and Davidson all made the list as double-digit seeds.
But for Sweeney, the Colorado State Rams (6S) stood out as the biggest potential Cinderella run. Sweeney cited the Rams’ incredible offense and the ability of forward David Roddy to get them over the hump.
Speaking to The Spun, Sweeney predicted that the Rams may bow out as early as the Round of 32. But of the mid-majors in the NCAA Tournament, he feels they are the most likely team to reach the Elite Eight or the Final Four.
“The Rams’ potential second-round draw against SEC tournament champion Tennessee will be tricky, but this CSU team may have the best chance of any mid-major of going to an Elite Eight or Final Four in this year’s Big Dance,” Sweeney told TheSpun.

Colorado State went 24-4 in the regular season and at one point were the No. 20 team in the nation. They were No. 23 heading into the Mountain West Tournament but lost to San Diego State in the semifinals.
The Rams are currently ranked No. 24 heading into the NCAA Tournament and boast notable wins over Saint Mary’s and Creighton – both of whom also made the tournament.
David Roddy earned Mountain West Player of the Year honors.
