The winning ways may stick around
Two years ago around this time, I was watching CU lose to an ascendant Washington team 54-7 in the Pac-12. The Colorado Buffaloes were in year 3 of Karl Dorrell, but they were being coached by Mike Sanford after Dorrell was fired. They had no money, no prospects and precious little talent.
Look where we are now. Look. Where we are. Now.
Deion Sanders, in his second year, has the Buffs competing for a conference championship game berth. His son, Shedeur Sanders, sit he best quarterback in the country. His son in everything but blood, Travis Hunter, is the current favorite to win the Heisman. They all represent the Colorado Buffaloes, who are 8-2 and in contention to win the Big 12 Conference. This is all so goddamn surreal.
Shedeur Sanders is off to the NFL after this year. As such, there is an opening at quarterback next year for the Buffs. Ryan Staub performed well in Utah last year, but there should be an open competition in 2025. There’s no better fit for the roster next year than JuJu Lewis.

Lewis is already a household name. The senior at Carrollton High School in Georgia reclassified from the 2026 class (where he was the #1 recruit) and committed to Lincoln Riley and the USC Trojans more than a year ago. However, they have gone their separate ways at this point, but it’s not due to Lewis’s impact on the field. Lewis has started on his varsity team since he was a freshman, and his three years have been special. He has 138 career TDs and over 10,000 (!!!) career yards. His junior/senior year, this year, is still going on, but he has 40 TDs so far this year and he has a 78% completion percentage. Yeah. he’s really good. Like really good.
Juju Lewis should remind of some quarterbacks. Just watch this:
This is sophomore year tape. He was a sophomore dropping these dimes. It’s just ridiculous. These are timing throws, anticipation throws, throws that need touch, throws that need zip, deep balls, he shows it all off here. With his build (slightly smaller than 6’2), his propensity to stay in the pocket, and his deadly accuracy, he should remind you of Shedeur Sanders. But he should also remind you of the prototypical Lincoln Riley quarterback, Baker Mayfield. He has the ability to be that good.
We will have more on JuJu Lewis this week. But I want to end with this. 2 years ago the Buffs were 1-10 wth no future in sight. Now, the future is a 5 star QB taking the reigns from the best QB in the country and leading a team with the best young OL in the country, Jordan Seaton, a stable of pass rushers and talent everywhere on the field. Oh, and the best recruiter in the country as head coach.
We comin.
