College Football Coach Uses MC Hammer Dance Moves To Teach His Players

In what might be the best collaboration between music and football since Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, one college football coach has apparently used his own career in music to help coach his players.

During today’s game between Arizona and Colorado, which the Buffaloes went on to win 34-7, rap legend MC Hammer was a guest of the Wildcats who showed his support for Arizona running backs coach Alonzo Carter. Fox reporter Allison Williams revealed that Carter was actually one of Hammer’s lead dance choreographers from 1988 to 1995, during the height of Hammer’s music career.

Williams asked Carter if he uses any of the dance choreography he used with MC Hammer’s music when teaching his players and Carter revealed that he actually does have a specific technique he uses that’s inspired by Hammer’s legendary 1990 hit “U Can’t Touch This.“

“I was talking to Coach Carter before the game and asked him ‘Are there any similarities between teaching people to dance and coaching running backs?’ He said, ‘Actually there is. A drill we do with quick feet and then we slide to protection – it’s called typewriter feet and it’s the dance move we choreographed in the U Can’t Touch This music video,'” Williams said.

Carter’s running backs weren’t able to make much headway against the Buffaloes today though. None of their backs were even able to average 4.0 yards per carry as Colorado’s defense smothered them and ultimately held the entire offense to just seven points.

Still, you don’t hear stories like that very often.
