Juju Lewis will have a familiar face in Boulder

Whether you were enjoying precious family time or avoiding it as much as possible or didn’t even realize there was a holiday this week, the Buffs gave you something to look forward to. Your Colorado Buffaloes, who always have an eye for the spotlight under Coach Prime, made quite a bit of noise last Thursday night when they announced some high-profile talent joining the Buffs. One of the worst-kept secrets was that Carde Smith was joining the Buffs.

Smith plays for Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama, but he has been connected at the hip with Juju Lewis. Yes, the same Juju Lewis that will play for the Buffs next year. Smith protects his five-star QB as a right tackle, which is where he most likely projects in college as well. Smith was committed to USC with Lewis for most of this year, but de-committed around the same time his quarterback did.

Smith is a mobile, pass-first blocker. His tape shows that he is very comfortable pulling around and blocking, even as a right tackle. He’s all of 6’6 and 280 pounds, but he will need to put on some weight if he is going to play right away for the Buffs. Smith will walk into an open competition for his spot and the Buffs have proven that they are more than happy to play freshmen if they can Deion Sanders win.
