Colorado Buffaloes to play BYU in Alamo Bowl

The Buffs are headed back to San Antonio

After a week of speculation, we finally know where and who the Colorado Buffaloes will play in their bowl game. The Buffaloes will make their return to San Antonio, Texas on December 28th, playing against the BYU Cougars in the Valero Alamo Bowl.

There was little doubt that Colorado would end up playing in San Antonio, as the Alamo Bowl got first pick as bowl teams from the pool of teams and the Buffaloes are one of the most watched squads in the nation. BYU seemed like the likely opponent, with impressive viewership numbers of their own and a very passionate fanbase that travels well.

We’ve got a battle of some of the Big 12’s best in San Antonio later this month. Both Colorado and BYU finished tied for first place in the conference this season, but both lost out on their opportunity to play in the title game due to tiebreakers. Their consolation prize will be a crack at another of the conference’s top dogs, where the winner can say they should have played in Dallas.

The Buffs don’t exactly have a great history of playing in the Alamo Bowl either, with a 0-3 record and two losses in San Antonio in their last two bowl games in 2016 and 2020. The names Mason Rudolph and Bijan Robinson are enough to give any Colorado fans flashbacks to CU’s Alamo Bowl blowouts.

Now, Coach Prime and the Buffaloes will get the opportunity to set the record straight and prove they can get the job done on the biggest stage. With Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders saying they’ll play in the bowl game, the Buffaloes will likely be favored against the Cougars.

Be sure to keep up with the Ralphie Report in the run-up to the bowl game, as we’ll have plenty of podcasts and articles previewing the matchup!
