After Colorado’s blowout loss to the Nebraska Cornhuskers at Memorial Stadium this past weekend, there was apparently an incident with a fan that one of the Buffaloes’ assistants spoke out on.
Taking to X on Saturday night, Colorado director of player personnel Corey Phillips wrote that a man used a racial slur directed at the team’s staff and players. He said he was lucky that his father prepared him not to respond.
“Losing is one thing, the use of the N-word towards our staff and kids ain’t a good look. Please be lucky my father told me to prepare myself not to respond! My man that let that word come flying out of your mouth, may God cover your troubled heart,” Phillips posted. “I STILL BELIEVE IN THIS TEAM.”

According to Jeff Hauser of BuffsBeat, two sources have confirmed details of the alleged altercation, stating that a Nebraska fan yelled a racial slur at them in a “profanity-laced rant before fleeing the arena.” Neither school has commented on the alleged incident but the Nebraska athletics department forwarded the details to game management and the University of Nebraska Police Department.
“Two sources confirmed details of the post game altercation to BuffsBeat,” Hauser wrote. ” One of them said that Colorado players were loading the buses outside of Memorial Stadium when a Nebraska fan allegedly yelled out a racial slur in a profanity-laced rant before fleeing the area. Phillips was said to be assisting the Buffs players at the time of the incident.”
Many fans have expressed skepticism over the incident with some calling Phillips an outright liar.
Unless we get video of the incident sometime in the future, it’s going to be hard to pin down the truth.
