Colorado football to play BYU in 2024 Alamo Bowl: What to know

December 8, 2024 by DNVR

Deion Sanders and the Colorado football team have found out their bowl game fate.

The Buffaloes have been chosen to play in the Valero Alamo Bowl against Big 12 opponent BYU. It’s a matchup of two Big 12 teams because Colorado is still tied into Pac-12 bowls through the 2025 season.

Thanks, conference realignment.

Colorado will be the home team for the game that kicks off on Saturday, Dec. 28 at 5:30 p.m. MT/7:30 p.m. ET. The Alamo Bowl will be televised on ABC and will take place at the Alamodome located in downtown San Antonio, Texas.

It will be the final collegiate game of a handful of Colorado football players, including Shedeur Sanders (Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year) and Travis Hunter (Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year), who are both expected to be top-five NFL draft picks in 2025.

Deion Sanders during the @valeroalamobowl press conference: “We don’t tap out. We don’t sit out. It’s a blessing to play this wonderful game. Our kids are going to play.

“Matter of fact, we’re gonna pick up the Heisman Trophy this week and he’s gonna play.” pic.twitter.com/4rFjeQblUJ

This is the first meeting of Colorado and BYU on the gridiron since 1988 (Freedom Bowl). The two programs have met 12 times and Colorado leads the all-time series 8-3-1.

Colorado has the No. 3 scoring offense in the Big 12 (34.5 points per game).

BYU has the No. 1 scoring defense in the Big 12 (20.1 points allowed per game).

BYU has the No. 6 scoring offense in the Big 12 (30.8 points per game).
