Colorado State players have a chip on their shoulder entering Saturday’s game against Colorado.
Last September, the Rams nearly derailed a storybook start to Deion Sanders’ tenure as the Buffaloes head coach. However, Colorado improved to 3-0 with a 43-35 victory in double overtime.
The Mountain West squad is hungry to knock off Coach Prime’s team in Saturday’s rematch. Two Rams players laid down the gauntlet with some pointed commentary toward their upcoming opponent.
Wide receiver Tory Horton told CBS News Colorado’s Romi Beam that they “owe them one” after last year’s loss.
“I don’t feel like we left it all on the field because we should have murdered them guys,” Horton said. “They came out with that attitude as they were on top of the world, and this ain’t no Cinderella story. So we’re coming for revenge.”
Quarterback Brayden Fowler-Nicolosi agreed that Colorado was overconfident entering last year’s matchup as heavy favorites.
“They came out with an attitude and thought it was gonna be a cakewalk because they saw the reports, 27.5 points or whatever [the spread] was. And they got a rude, rude awakening real quick. I think it goes to show that the hype, the media train, all that, it only gets you so far at the end of the day,” Fowler-Nicolosi said.
“You have to line up 11 guys against our 11 guys, and we’ll find out who wants it more. We’ll see how far Instagram followers gets them.”
Horton added that all the fans and celebrities jumping on the Colorado bandwagon won’t help them on the field during Saturday night’s game, which starts at 7:30 p.m. ET on CBS.
“At the end of the day, Deion Sanders ain’t playing,” he said. “It’s those players playing, so those players better back up on what they speak about.”
