Deion Sanders may have a complicated relationship with some members of the sports media but everyone loved his recent interaction with UCF reporter Andrew Cherico.
After Saturday’s big win over the Knights, Coach Prime took some time to shoutout the physically disabled journalist and share how proud of him he was for not letting anything get in the way of him covering the game he loves.
Taking to social media afterwards, Cherico talked about how much that moment meant to him.
“Wow, I’m blessed beyond belief to have witnessed @DeionSanders giving me a shoutout telling me he’s proud of me and all the work I do especially with the adversity I deal with from my physical disability. Thank you Coach Prime it means the world,” Cherico said.
“Growing up with a disability I knew I could never play professional football but my passion for the game never left instead it turned into a passion of speaking and analyzing the game,” he continued.
“I’ve had more struggles than I could’ve imagined in my short life but I’ve always been determined to make my dream a reality and it’s coming true in front of me and Coach Prime helped me realize that even more. … Thank you to everyone who supports my work and coverage. Thank you for supporting me turning my dream into a reality.”
Folks in his mentions appreciated the moment just as much:
“I heard that Andrew and it was beautiful and heartfelt by @DeionSanders !” Connie Carberg replied.
“Love this man,” a colleague said. “Enjoyed sitting next to you in the press box yesterday.”
“This made me tear up,” a fan commented. “You deserve that shout out! Keep doing what you do and making UCF proud!”
Keep up the awesome work, Andrew!
